Wait… That’s a Paraiba?

by Gems By Dynamic 08 Dec 2025 0 Comments

At first glance, you might think you’re seeing a pair of Peridots… or even Tsavorites. Their neon glow is so striking and unexpected that anyone would take a second look. But here’s the twist, these aren’t what they seem. The more you look, the more you realise something isn’t adding up. That bright, electric colour doesn’t behave like the gems you think they are. And then it hits you. Wait… that’s a Paraiba?

These two gemstones come from Mozambique and are certified by GFCO Swiss Lab, carrying the unmistakable neon life that Paraibas are known for, but in a tone that instantly surprises you. The first stone measures 16.48 × 7.74 × 5.40 mm and weighs 4.57 carats, shaped beautifully into a marquise that elongates its glow. The second, also marquise, is 14.91 × 7.24 × 4.41 mm with a weight of 3.16 carats. Both sit within the same colour family , a neon green that lights up as soon as it meets the light.

What Makes These Paraibas Special?

Paraiba belongs to the tourmaline family, and what sets it apart from all other tourmalines is a single requirement ,it must contain copper. Scientifically, a tourmaline can only be classified as Paraiba when its copper content exceeds 2%, and the glow you see in these stones is the proof shining through.

What makes these gemstones extraordinary begins deep within their structure. Since Paraiba is defined by copper, the next question is: how much copper do these stones hold?

▪️The 4.57 cts stone carries 12.73% copper.
▪️The 3.16 cts stone carries 13.19% copper.

Both far exceed the 2% requirement, confirming them as strong copper-bearing Paraibas with excellent internal energy. Along with copper, elements like manganese influence how the final colour appears ,which is why these stones glow with this bright neon green tone rather than the classic blues.

We provide additional elemental analysis documents, showing the exact copper percentages and chemical composition, offering full clarity for collectors and buyers.

Why Should a Collector or Jeweler Consider These?

For collectors and designers, these gemstones open up a world of design possibilities. Their striking colour paired with the slender marquise shape creates a gemstone that instantly draws attention. Whether used in a custom ring, pendant, or statement piece, these stones bring a lively neon presence that stands out effortlessly. Collectors love gems that tell a slightly different story, and these Paraibas offer exactly that a vibrant twist on a world-renowned gem.

These stones are also appealing for long-term collectors who look for pieces that hold meaning and rarity. Paraiba tourmalines already have a strong place in the gemstone world, and unusual colours like this often become even more desirable over time. Their certification, brightness, and uncommon shade make them gemstones that can remain valuable within a collection for years, offering both beauty and long-lasting significance without needing any risky assumptions.
