by Gems By Dynamic 19 Sep 2024 0 Comments

Orange diamonds, often referred to as "fire diamonds" because of their intense and vibrant hue, are among the rarest and most captivating treasures in the world of colored diamonds. These gems are not only prized for their unique color but also for the complex conditions under which they form. Orange diamonds are primarily found in the alluvial mines of South Africa and Australia, but like all colored diamonds, their occurrences are incredibly rare. The extraordinary orange diamond featured today is sourced from Africa. It weighs 0.54 carats and is graded a VS2 clarity diamond, with a Fancy vivid yellowish-orange color. Read on to learn more about this hidden paradise!

The Formation of Orange Diamonds
As we know, natural fancy color diamonds obtain their colors due to many reasons. It could be due to the presence of a particular chemical compound or due to structural anomalies. Orange diamonds owe their hue to the specific arrangement of nitrogen within the carbon lattice, just as for yellow diamonds. In yellow diamonds, the molecules are arranged in a cluster, whereas in orange diamonds, there are structural gaps within the lattice which causes light to be absorbed differently. This arrangement interacts with light to produce the diamond's fiery orange coloration.

Intensity & Clarity
Orange diamonds come in a range of shades, from faint to vivid, often described in terms of fruit, such as pumpkin or carrot. The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) grades these diamonds using terms such as "Fancy Light," "Fancy Vivid," and "Fancy Deep" to indicate the intensity of the color. Many orange diamonds exhibit secondary hues of brown, yellow, or pink, of different proportions, making each stone an individual masterpiece. This 0.54-carat diamond featured today exhibits a secondary yellow hue and is graded fancy vivid yellowish orange according to GIA. This makes it just one of a kind in the entire universe!

This diamond is also highly valuable due to its clarity - VS2. Inclusions in VS2 diamonds are minor and range from difficult to somewhat easy to see under 10x magnification. These inclusions are typically not visible to the naked eye. Common inclusions in VS2 diamonds might include clouds, feathers, or crystals that are somewhat noticeable at high magnification but generally do not affect the diamond's beauty brilliance when viewed with the unaided eye. Therefore, if you are looking for a high-clarity diamond but cannot afford the rates at which a VV1 or VVS2 diamond go for, do not look further - as long as the beauty of the diamond is not disturbed, a diamond with VS2 clarity is equally good too.

Symbolism and Appeal
In the realm of symbolism, orange diamonds are often associated with joy, energy, and vitality, making them a popular choice for jewelry that signifies happiness and enthusiasm. Their sunny color evokes feelings of warmth and creativity, and they are often sought after by collectors and connoisseurs who appreciate their rarity and distinctive beauty.

Investing in Orange Diamonds
As with most colored diamonds, orange diamonds are considered a good investment. Their rarity and unique appeal mean that they maintain or increase in value over time, making them not only a stunning choice for jewelry but also a wise addition to investment portfolios. Whether set in a piece of jewelry or kept as a loose stone, an orange diamond is a remarkable and lasting treasure.
