As the name suggests, salt and pepper diamonds have the greatest number of inclusions and were discovered in 450 BC. Back then, diamonds with better clarity were the only ones in demand. The inclusions of a salt and pepper diamond may vary from being just a few black marks, to completely black; therefore they are not graded very well in terms of one of the 4C's - Clarity.
As we move into more modern times, where nature and its untouched gifts are being valued, where uniqueness is more sought after, the salt and pepper diamond makes its way to the top of the list. Couples opt for such unique diamonds because they can never be replicated.
