Rubellites are the most sought-after tourmalines after Paraiba; simply because they possess a beautiful reddish-pink hue. They were mistaken for rubies upon discovery in the 16th century by the Spanish. These beautiful gemstones are rare and their red color is caused by traces manganese. Rubellites, just like all tourmalines do not have a cleavage and therefore are highly suitable to make jewelry.
